The Tönnies Group exposed: miserable working conditions in the German meat sector

The Tönnies Group is facing criticism for miserable working conditions and exploitation in Germany.

The majority of the workers come from Eastern Europe and work for subcontractors. Tönnies is the host company and is accountable for any human rights abuses perpetrated in their meat processing plants.

IUF-affiliate the NGG has  reminded employers and politicians that the sector has entrenched problems of sub-standard pay and conditions. Laws passed in recent years have not eliminated the problems. Further measures are needed to prevent exploitation in the meat sector.
