Hong Kong: Unions and allies demand collective bargaining rights

Just prior to the handover of Hong Kong to mainland China in 1997, legislators representing the independent, democratic labour movement managed to gain support to pass laws guaranteeing the right to collective bargaining for the first time. Immediately after the handover - just two weeks later - the laws were struck down. Since then workers in Hong Kong have been denied the right to bargain collectively.

Workers at Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia are organizing to form independent democratic unions. The company has responded by systematically attacking their members and elected leaders.

NNN strike ends with recognition and CBA at Norwegian fish processor Norse Production

The strike launched by the Norwegian Foodworkers' Union NNN at fish processor Norse Production on September 8 ended on October 12 with the company signing the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the fish processing sector. With union recognition secured, the local union will now be able to negotiate additional improvements with local management within the framework of the sectoral agreement.

NNN on strike for rights and recognition at fish processor Norse Production

NorsestrikeWorkers - many of them migrants from Poland and Lithuania - have been on strike since September 8 at the fish processing company Norse Production near Bergen on the west coast of Norway. Organized in the IUF-affiliated Norwegian Food and Allied Workers Union (NNN), they are demanding the right to a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the company.

AB InBev Honduras: STIBYS secures hundreds of permanent jobs for outsourced workers

Honduras3Following three years of long and difficult negotiations, the IUF-affiliated Beverage and Related Industry Workers' Union (STIBYS) and Cervecería Hondureña SA, owned by AB InBev, have signed a new collective agreement which secures permanent employment for 400 outsourced workers.

IUF signs agreement on rights in the supply chain with Sweden's government-owned retail alcohol monopoly

The IUF signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Systembolaget, the Swedish state-owned alcohol retail monopoly, on August 24 in Stockholm. The MoU recognizes that Systembolaget and the IUF have a common interest in improving working conditions in the alcohol industry and its supply chain, including the right of workers to exercise their rights to be in a trade union and to negotiate collectively.
